The sad truth about timeshare. Part 1

Don't let your timeshare run you aground!
There have been some letters in the Sur in English lately about the sale of timeshare over the telephone.
Let us be very clear about this, there are very few telephone calls that you might receive about your timeshare that are not trying to part you from your money.
The resale market in timeshares is dead. Some honourable timeshare organisations will try to sell your timeshare for you but don’t spend the money before you see it. Think about it logically. If you own a week at the Looloo Resort, is a salesman going to sell your week for 5% commission or a new week for 30% to 50% commission? It doesn’t take long to work out, does it?
If you have come across that old chestnut “I have a client who is looking for exactly what you own but you have to pay the legal fees up front”, either you have been scammed or someone is trying to scam you. It is one of the oldest and most successful approaches in the industry.
Have you been told that the maintenance fees for the last three years can be paid out of the (massive) proceeds of the sale? If you have you have been scammed or someone has tried to scam you. Many time share resorts will recover their week without informing you if you fail to pay the maintenance for two years. The probability is that it is no longer yours to sell.
Never, ever pay any money to anybody who cold calls you and tries to tell you that you can make money because they can sell your unwanted timeshare.
You can’t!
They can’t!
