So. There is some justice in the world.

The best man for the job, probably.

The best man for the job, probably.

I don’t know how much of an escape the EU has had with the failure of Tony Blurr to achieve his ambition of the presidency – all I can hope is that the selfish opportunist will continue to fail in any bid for a position of influence.

Herman van Rompuy, the new president from Belgium is pretty much an unknown quantity but he does have a reputation for thorough and deliberate actions. One thing is for sure, unlike Blurr, he will not be immediately looking for areas of conflict in the world into which to shovel EU troops as cannon fodder.

It is expected that Herman van Rompuy will succeed because he is not self-seeking and will not attempt to bludgeon EU leaders into his way of thinking. Hopefully he will be a conduit through which divergent opinions and ideas will be funnelled into a uniform direction to the benefit of the Union.

It looks the hand on the helm is that of a well balanced individual who appreciates the value of people, work and contemplation.

From reports it seems that Blurr’s undoing was the result of the withdrawal of support by Gordon Brown. Well done, Mr Brown – do more of that sort of thing and I will have to change my opinion of you.
