About
Sometimes the amount of leisure time many of us have when we settle in Spain can be quite daunting.
Even with all that there is to do here, we can often find ourselves at a loose end. I know web sites like Facebook are used to socialise and meet new people but they are not always as interesting as we would like them to be.
One of the great joys of having your own website is that you control it. You decide what your website will contain and who else will be able to put information on it. There is also a great sense of achievement when you have worked at your desk for an hour or so and produced your very own 3,4 or 10 page web site.
We can give you all the help you need and a system that you will be able to use and work with immediately.
We are looking to have thendt network become a world wide association of local websites so that, not only can neighbours keep up with current local events, but the world can look through your eyes and see what you are getting so much joy from, be it your pets, your grandchildren or your local clubs and associations.
If you would just like to let our readers know what has interested you lately, some of the things that you find exciting and interesting or even a good place to visit, feel free to let us know by leaving a comment.
| THE QUESTION
It’s the week-end again. You have a couple of days off work and the shopping to do. It’s raining cats and dogs and you really have no idea what to do to pass the time. It is probably going to be another two days stuck in front of the moron box watching other people have lives. What about your life? Isn’t it about time that you did something constructive with your spare time? Is a soap opera the way you see your life or do you really care that it is sliding by you and you are achieving nothing? Do you remember the excitement when you bought your first computer? Look at what you have now. You probably own a machine that will get you into the life (the real life) of just about anybody else in the world who has access to the internet. Why aren’t you doing that? |
THE ANSWER
I tried to get into this whole computer and internet thing but it was just too complicated. I joined a few clubs like FaceBook and Twitter but they don’t really do much for me. If the truth is known, my computer is just an extension of my TV – I watch DVDs on it while everybody else argues about which soap opera to watch. I did join some forum groups and tried to get some conversations going but it is difficult if you can’t keep on top of the subject. There is so much technical stuff that people talk about relating to computers. I get quite baffled. Sometimes it seems that the world is getting too technical and obscure. It would be nice to be able to get into this whole communication arena but it is simply far too complicated for the likes of me. |
THE SOLUTION
The idea that computers and the internet are complicated is now very old fashioned. With a little effort you can find all the information that you need to get started with your own web site. Not only that, you will find that there is a lot of information that you have that you can share with other people. If you really want to get on line and you would like to form your own club, help a club you belong to, to get on line or just help other people you will only need to do a few hours of research – so – you don’t really have an excuse not to, do you? If the idea of research is not up your street, ask me about how to get set up with a web site that will score highly in the search engines, ask me how you can share your valuable knowledge with people in emerging countries who need to learn what you know or simply ask me how to get started with your own interactive web site. art(at)arthurwebster(dot)com |

When the NDT Network was started by Peter Heavey a vison was created of an international network of magazines dedicated to providing valuable information and resources to local populations.
Initially the targets were towns and villages but, with the NDT motto ‘Serving Active Communities Around the World’, it became obvious that some communities are not restricted to geographical areas.
The doors were thrown wide open to everybody to join the network and use the infrastructure that we have created. Some organisations would qualify for the free use of all of our services.
It seems that our message is not getting across. The dross and hyped up infestation of the internet by pretend marketers has made it almost impossible to get a genuine message out there.
Have you tried doing any research on the web lately? These marketing cretins have made it almost impossible to find information quickly. They have flooded Google and other search engines with lies and deceit. Do any simple search and you will proably find that the first ten pages of results are sites trying to sell you something. They contain little information. As the coruption of the service continues, as more and more web sites are created with thousands of key words that don’t get mentioned on the site at all, the value of the internet will be diluted beyond recall.
The NDT Network has been aware of this growing problem for some time and has high hopes of creating an information highway to replace the one that has been so recklessly destroyed.
This site set out to provide alternative information. The amount has been reduced as visitors to different sections have fallen in numbers or failed to appear at all. It is gratifying to receive emails thanking me for the information I provide. Even more satisfying is seeing the growth in the response rates to the various blogs on the site.
If you see the internet as a way to aid your fellow man. If you feel that you have a message that needs to be ‘out there’. If you would like to be an active member. If you would like to have your own site within the Local Gazette Series. If you think that communicating your ideas, opinions and feelings with the world at large would help. If you are sick and tired of only being able to go to the bars and play bingo or do a quiz (Great British bar passtimes that seem to have taken root here in Spain) drop me a line on art(at)arthurwebster(dot)com and let’s see if we can improve something.
